School Of Seven Bells

School Of Seven Bells

Ben Curtis, one of the founding members of Secret Machines, left that band in 2007 to focus on School Of Seven Bells, an ongoing project with two members of the ambient electronic group On!Air!Library! While his old band made (and still makes) overly focused psychedelic rock, School Of Seven Bells crafts tunes that, while certainly trance-inducing, come complete with jagged peaks, crater-filled valleys, and vocals that sound a little bit like the wind. It’s fitting, then, that the Brooklyn band should name its debut album Alpinisms. The 2010 album, Disconnect From Desire, is similarly appropriate, marrying calculated blips with placid harmonizing and sleepy synths. Now a duo, the band recently released a third album, Ghostory, which floats along gorgeously with tracks like “Lafaye,” whose various ghosts haunt the album’s narrative.
