Artist Scout Niblett

Singer-songwriter Scout Niblett proves that sometimes there is nothing more powerful than a single voice put to a drum beat. The England-born artist, who currently resides in Portland, plays guitar too, but it's Niblett's drum and vocal combinations that showcase her unique and throaty style. Niblett has been putting out records Stateside for years, working with producer Steve Albini and applying her raw yelp and minimalist instrumental backing to covers like Nirvana's “Verse Chorus Verse” and the dancehall classic “Uptown Top Ranking” by Althea and Donna. Her first album for Drag City, this year's The Calcination Of Scout Niblett, is a spare collection of throbbing, thudding songs that leave the listener emotionally spent—and eager for Niblett's next round of emotionally taut confessionals.
