Screamin' Cyn Cyn And The Pons
Madison’s Screamin’ Cyn Cyn And The Pons put on consistently giddy sets of clever pop-punk, aided by thrift-store-glam getups and wacky showmanship on the part of lead singer Shane O’Neill and guitarist-singer Cynthia Burnson. Plus, tunes like “20 Percent Gay” and “Cat Waco” have turned out to be bizarrely sing-along-friendly despite their subject matter. The band’s 2007 album, Screamin’ Target Heart Rate, came out on Madison label Crustacean Records, as did its most recent release, Damn, Girl. The giddiness persists through short, sharp goofball songs like “Trophy Case,” though the sentimental heart that beats beneath helps them linger.
