Screaming Females

Fronted by Marissa Paternoster, whose vocal depths transcend her pint-sized frame, Screaming Females play the type of concise, breathless power-punk that has been sorely lacking in recent years. With an eye on forbears like Bikini Kill and Sleater-Kinney, Paternoster and her bandmates have opted for the purist punk route, self-releasing their first two albums before putting out 2009’s Power Move and 2010’s Castle Talk on Don Giovanni Records. After a vinyl reissue of those aforementioned and long-out-of-print first two records by the band, Baby Teeth and What If Someone Is Watching Their T.V.?, the band is touring behind its new album, Ugly, which retains its predecessors’ spiky, snotty DIY spirit and ups the blistering guitar heroics.
