Sean Michael Dargan
Sean Michael Dargan rocks with his grown-up domesticity, not against it. The utterly Madisonian singer-songwriter's bowties and cheerful tenor make it clear that not all veteran musicians care about being tough guys. Snap Your Fingers And Stomp Your Feet, a new album released at this two-set show, opens on a restless note with a "Goodbye" to George W. Bush. (Again, is he Madisonian or is he Madisonian?) But Snap really is well-rounded, focusing on unabashed affection for his family ("Margaret"), self-deprecation ("If I Were Smart"), and winking wordplay ("Quarter Turn Twist Of The Wrist"). Dargan's bandmates in The Kissers, and other musical friends, polish his mild guitar-pop with tasteful vocal harmonies and horns, but not too much.
