Sebadoh
Lou Barlow has always been a significant part of Dinosaur Jr.—responsible for more than bass players generally are—but it’s still Sebadoh that most fully serves Barlow’s strengths as a tender and touching songwriter, even when he slathers on the noise. Of course, Barlow’s wasn’t the dominant voice of Sebadoh, and the schizophrenic tension of the band’s early records ultimately led to the departure of co-founder Eric Gaffney. With this year’s reissue of Sebadoh’s first post-Gaffney disc,Bakesale, the lineup of Barlow, Jason Loewenstein, and Bob Fay has reunited to play the songs of its most commercially successful—but no less lo-fi—period.
