Serena Ryder
Serena Ryder's made good in the parallel universe of Canadian pop music, and she's likely to score some more American fans to go with her hits and Juno Award at home. Her blend of folk earnestness and pop appeal are plenty familiar, yet her 2008 album for Atlantic Records, Is It OK, managed a touch of adult-contempo production while actually sharpening the impact of Ryder's songs. Ryder's voice and acoustic guitar cut a direct and mature path to the point of tunes like "All For Love" and "Little Bit Of Red." Besides, it's okay to get a bit sappy on a tune like "Weak In The Knees" when it's performed with a little craft and attention to detail.
