Signaldrift

When Signaldrift launched in 1998, it was a vehicle for Milwaukee’s Franz Buchholtz, who crafted everything from Eno-esque soundscapes to glitchy, danceable madness while remaining consistently interesting over the course of several releases. Buchholtz found room under the Signaldrift umbrella for new collaborator John Goelzer in 2005, and while the duo’s first album together, Two Agents, doesn’t deviate all that dramatically from Signaldrift’s signature sound, it is an alluring melange of down-shift dance-pop, shoegazer-style brooding, and film-score atmospherics.
