Skrillex
It probably makes sense that Sonny Moore would jump from being the whine-hurling frontman for a homogenized take on screamo (From First To Last) to assuming the identity of Skrillex and cranking out watered down takes on dubstep and house music. 2010’s Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites EP couldn’t have possibly found a better home than Deadmau5’s Mau5trap label, as it’s loaded with the same throbbing, farty bass synths and lackluster dynamics as the man-rodent himself. The mouse-man must have been an influence, as Moore founded a label of his own last year, OWSLA, as well as appeared on the cover of Spin magazine as the odd-looking face of nu-nu-rave. Ultimately, though, Skrillex might be great for a dance party, but fails to retain the same replay value of contemporaries.
