Sleep Whale
“Somber” is a worthy descriptor of Denton’s Sleep Whale, whose electronic drones and carefully plucked acoustic guitar shapes recall the pensive, wintry airs of gothic, neo-classical musicians like Michael Cashmore. Like a digitally assisted counterpart to Western Vinyl labelmates Balmorhea, Sleep Whale gets frequently watery and cinematic on its full-length debut, Houseboat, but tracks like "We Were Dripping" and "Cotton Curls" point toward a burgeoning pop sense—albeit one marked by a tremendous amount of romance.
