For a brief but exciting period from the mid-’90s to the early aughts, El Paso’s At The Drive-In charted a unique and blistering path for Texas rock bands in particular and all of post-hardcore more specifically. Any band that now employs both a singer and a screamer owes some debt to the seminal band, and especially to its 2000 swan song, Relationship Of Command. When the band dissolved, guitarist Jim Ward formed Sleepercar, a countrified act he fronts when he’s not performing with his other band, Sparta.
