Sleeping In The Aviary
Sleeping In The Aviary’s 2010 album Great Vacation! included gems like “You Don’t Have To Drive” and the slow-skanking death ballad “Last Kiss On A Sinking Ship,” suggesting that SITA had taken further steps toward cleaning up its sound. The crisp production revelaed a lot of charming details of the sort that can be lost amid guitar fuzz and distortion. The band’s most recent, You And Me, Ghost, is a step in the opposite direction, as the album was recorded in just a week, returning to what singer Elliott Kozel has referred to as “the spirit of early rock and roll bands.” Also, as was their aim, each track is about a girl, and we all know you can’t get more rock and roll than that. “The ladies need to know how special they are,” says Kozel.
