Smashing Pumpkins
Beloved when they were coming up and bemoaned when they were at the height of their powers, Smashing Pumpkins have never lacked for ambition. The prescient swirling din of their 1991 debut, Gish, only continued to get bigger and bigger as the years went on and budgets grew, and even the band’s storied dismantling was big and complicated. So much so that the version of Smashing Pumpkins reconstituted by Billy Corgan for 2007’s Zeitgeist bore little resemblance to the original (at least in terms of staffing). Taking a break from Twitter feuds with Courtney Love, Corgan and company are in the process of releasing 44 tracks from the tarot-inspired concept album Teargarden By Kaleidyscope one at a time online and as part of the concept-album-within-an-album Oceania (slated for a November 2011 release).
