So So Radio, hailing from “Parts Of, Wisconsin,” has enjoyed something of a meteoric rise in the last year, culminating with a coveted opening spot for The Hold Steady on New Year’s in Milwaukee and the release of its debut LP, Dustcovers. But the band hasn’t employed a Lady Gaga meat dress approach to getting attention. Instead, SSR has pushed a measured indie rock agenda in tune with bands like Tapes ’N Tapes: too reserved to really be considered groundbreaking, but too polished and well written to be ignored.
