While some celebrities’ younger siblings aim to strike it rich by copycatting, Solange Knowles sidestepped her sister Beyonce’s curvaceous shadow by setting off in a different direction. On 2008’s Sol-Angel And The Hadley St. Dreams, she reached a friendly hand across the R&B-indie divide, sampling Boards Of Canada and Thievery Corporation. She’s since declared her love for Grizzly Bear, performed with Of Montreal, and recorded a cover of Dirty Projectors’ “Stillness Is The Move” that incorporates the slinky guitar line of “Bumpy’s Lament” from the Shaft soundtrack.
