As a rapper, Sole bucks the convention that rhymes should, well, rhyme. The Anticon co-founder has released a string of albums featuring his stream-of-conscious lyrics since 2000, and continues that tradition with 2007’s Sole And The Skyrider Band. On it, the rapper forgoes his homemade, glitchy beats—which can still be heard in his other project, Mansbestfriend—for a live band. As the tunes (especially leadoff track “A Sad Day For Investors”) suggest, though, the new lineup is anything but conventional. The band’s new disc is a remix LP of the songs on Skyrider Band by artists including Fog, Dosh, Odd Nosdam, and Pictureplane.
