Artist Solillaquists Of Sound

Discovered and championed by Sage Francis, Orlando-based hip-hop collective Solillaquists Of Sound shares Francis’ fiercely intelligent, politically aware sensibility. But on its debut album, As If We Existed, it interweaves this with an emphasis on positivity that seems almost hippie-ish, especially when the veganism, spoken-word poetry, and overt spirituality are factored in. Its newest, No More Heroes, is a more aggressive play for straight popularity, bringing in harder beats and synth lines, and lightening up considerably on the could-be crossover hit “Popcorn.” The album’s first single, “Death Of The Muse,” is both a tribute to and benefit for the mother of J Dilla, the renowned producer who died in 2006.
