Souls Of Mischief
Since the group’s well-received 1993 debut, 93 ’Til Infinity, Oakland’s Souls Of Mischief have consistently created intellectual rhymes for an audience looking for more than the usual exhausting rap clichés about sex, booze, and jewelry. The Souls remain tied to the underground by steering clear of mainstream hip-hop’s imposed norms, and—along with Del The Funky Homosapien and the rest of Hieroglyphics crew—are widely respected among their peers, even through long hiatuses: Last year’s Montezuma’s Revenge, featuring production by Prince Paul, was the Souls’ first full-length in almost a decade.
