Spaghetti Western String Company
Twin Cities combo Spaghetti Western String Co. has built its reputation on a delicious mix of orchestral music, rock, klezmer, and Americana, creating haunting instrumental tunes that could be the soundtrack for a long-lost movie Western. Originally the solo project of banjo/guitarist Michael Rossetto, the group has since expanded into a quartet that also includes clarinetist Paul Fonfara of Painted Saints. The group’s most recent disc—and the first to feature the new lineup in its entirety—is 2008’s Lull And Clatter. It embraces a musical landscape wide enough to include SWSC’s mournful takes on the folk classic “Wayfaring Stranger” and Franz Schubert’s “Der Leiermann.”
