Local electro-pop quartet Speak might not be a big enough name to command the giant, neon pyramid stage sets of their robot-rocking heroes Daft Punk, but in the video for the band’s insanely catchy single “Carrie (Mindful),” it comes close. While the band members launch the song into the stratosphere from a darkened studio, a swiftly moving car projects their image on the Austin landscape, juxtaposing their faces against the Capitol Building, UT Tower, and Daniel Johnston’s Jeremiah The Innocent mural. Making themselves appear larger than various Austin landmarks is a shrewdly self-assured statement, and the band’s two releases, debut EP Hear Here and new record I Believe In Everything, have enough barbed wit and earworm hooks to back it up.
