Artist Static-X

Pounding electro-metal band Static-X seems to have a permanent spot halfway down the bill of every nü-metal package tour: It’s never quite big enough to fill those huge places on its own, but it still attracts enough of a crowd to headline clubs and avoid the opening slot. The group’s albums—the latest is Cult Of Static, released in March—are somewhat interchangeable, each marrying hair-raising nihilism to industrial-aggro music. Shrieking about death and sex and getting fucked up is all well and good, but with pendulum-like wavering between nakedly rough metal and disco-pounding madness, it'd be nice if the lyrics would show the same progression as the music.
