Steely Dan
It’s tough to think of another jazzy coke-rock outfit that’s had—or ever had a chance of having—the longevity of Steely Dan. Even core members Walter Becker and Donald Fagen seemed to concede the unlikely nature of their union when they named their 2000 comeback album Two Against Nature.Eleven years, another album (2003’s Everything Must Go), and quite a few tours later, it appears that Steely Dan is here to stay, and more than willing to give the fans what they want. At the same time, they’re sticking to their crotchety guns, as evidenced by the name of this summer’s tour, “Shuffle Diplomacy,” where they’re performing as self-proclaimed “jazz rock ambassadors to the galaxy.”
