Steve Winwood

Steve Winwood started off in The Spencer Davis Group before finding his ’60s footing in the rootsy rock band Traffic. Since then, the soul-voiced Englishman has been linked most closely to his mid-’80s solo career (see, if you must, hits like “Higher Love,” “Back In The High Life,” and “Roll With It”) and his steadily mounting stature in the jam-rock scene. His latest album, 2008’s Nine Lives, enjoyed a fair amount of success thanks to a guest spot from Eric Clapton on the song “Dirty City.”
