Street Sweeper Social Club
For the “Perfectly Suited Collaborations” file comes Street Sweeper Social Club, a project between Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave and Boots Riley of long-running hip-hop outfit The Coup. Both Morello and Reilly have long track records of lefty rabble-rousing, though Riley’s sharp-tongued radicalism makes Rage’s old polemics seem a little tame by comparison. The duo’s self-titled debut dropped in mid-2009, and it sounds exactly like a collaboration between the guitarist of Rage and the voice of The Coup: guitar that coils its grooves then strikes with hard-hitting riffs, while Riley exhorts listeners to “fight, motherfuckers!”
