Suckers

Based on their sound, it makes sense that Suckers keep company with MGMT and Yeasayer, whose Anand Wilder—along with TV On The Radio producer Chris Moore—helmed the group’s 2009 self-titled EP. The Brooklyn quartet creates a complex aural ecosystem where circuit-bending, toys, and more traditional instruments bounce off one another to produce oddly bewitching songs. The result, as seen on 2010’s full-length debut, Wild Smile, is a haunting hodgepodge of tribal rhythms, hazy harmonizing, and futuristic technology repurposed in the service of primitive sounds and accessible structures. Its new follow up, Candy Salad, smooths over some of the rough edges, courtesy of producer Matt Boynton.
