Sunny Day Real Estate
Sunny Day Real Estate formed in 1992, and after two well-received albums, broke up in 1995. The Seattle act got back together two years later, sans bassist Nate Mendel, who was busy with the Foo Fighters, only to break up again four years later. And now after eight more long years, SDRE’s founding members, for reasons that range from boredom to nostalgia to this month's glossy Sub Pop reissue of the band’s first two albums, have decided to re-form. Yet again. For the band that helped popularize emo in the ‘90s—the melodic, dreamy kind, not the screamy, black-eyeliner kind—this back-and-forth tug on emotions is somehow grossly appropriate.
