Super Diamond, a San Francisco-based Neil Diamond tribute band, has a tough act to follow since Diamond himself is still going strong (or weak, or both, or neither, according to taste). The “super” appellation isn’t just a selling point: Super Diamond prides itself on souped-up versions of the master’s many songs, including a version of “Sweet Caroline” set to the music of “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” Cross-generational musical hybridization might sound like a fishy way to court camp-loving ironists, but the added oomph is welcome once the group hits Diamond’s stretch of post-’60s schlock.
