Indie rock has evolved into a catch-all tag for pretty much anything with guitars that doesn’t sound like Nickelback, Slayer, or Garth Brooks. Sybris is one of the few bands going to which the genre name might actually apply. Bringing to mind classic indie rockers of decades past like Helium, Sonic Youth, and Huggy Bear, Sybris’ spectacular wall-of-sound guitar work is deftly complimented by vocalist Angela Mullenhour’s unique howl. The band has been on the brink of blowing up since the 2008 release of its sophomore album, Into The Trees, which was recorded in the same studio as PJ Harvey’s iconic Rid of Me.
