Artist Tally Hall

Can a band whose members wear color-coded neckties and cram random choral, hip-hop, and classical interludes into jaunty pop songs hold up as more than a novelty? Tally Hall has made it work since forming in 2002, at least, and even if the group’s songwriting isn’t all that innovative at the core, it’s pretty enjoyable to listen to more than once or twice. (And you’ve got to admire any group of dorks who can lay down the occasional rap without making asses of themselves.) The band’s long-delayed second album, Good & Evil, finds all its disparate voices working in harmony, filling in the subtle, genre-hopping shades between the allegorical extremes of its title.
