Tanlines

Brooklyn-based electronic pop duo Tanlines first gained attention in 2008 when they started releasing singles on the Internet. Made up of Eric Emm and Jesse Cohen, the project started as a loose, friendly collaboration: They put out a few sparse tracks for fun, gained a fair amount of steam on the interwebs and prompted UK label Young Turks to request a single in 2009. It’s a tale as old as time: The pair released their first EP, Settings, on True Panther in 2010, and after two years gigging and vagabonding around, they dropped their LP Mixed Emotions this year. Pulling together a whole heap of ’80s and ’90s studio pop and electro tendencies, Tanlines crafts tight, dance-y pop songs with a strong pull and a sing-along appeal.
