Tapes 'N Tapes

Tapes ’N Tapes’ endearingly offbeat 2005 debut,The Loon, made a lot of ears itch with its nervous rock jangle and strangely slanted melodies by songwriter and frontman Josh Grier. 2008’s Dave Fridmann-produced follow-up, Walk It Off, was generally tighter and fuller-sounding, but wisely didn’t tinker too much with Tapes’ established sound. The band’s most recent release, Outside continues the consistency and returns to the DIY approach by leaving the label out of it, but unfortunately lacks some of the spastic punch that enlivened the band’s debut.
