A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

Artist Tapes 'N Tapes

Tapes ’N Tapes' endearingly offbeat 2005 debut The Loon made a lot of ears itch with its nervous rock jangle and strangely slanted melodies by songwriter and frontman Josh Grier. Last year’s Dave Fridmann-produced follow-up, Walk It Off, is generally tighter and fuller-sounding, but wisely doesn’t tinker too much with Tapes’ established sound. (The band later joked on their website that it planned to embrace jazz-fusion for its third disc, but the recent single "SWM" finds Tapes firmly in the land of jangle.)
