Technicolor Teeth
Wisconsin trio Technicolor Teeth may occupy an overcrowded retro-niche—My Bloody Valentine-esque ’90s-worshipping continues to be all the rage these days—but it’s hard to hold a grudge when the job is handled this expertly. On this year’s Teenage Pagans, the Teeth serve up 12 cuts of pure psych-pop that manage to stick out from the noisy, gauzy, shoegaze-y pack. “White Mother” is a particularly strong standout, while “Station Wagon” demonstrates the band’s knack for something that many likeminded groups tend to neglect: melody. Even more impressive is the fact that Teenage Pagans is the band’s debut disc—expect more of the shimmering, tripped-out past in the future.
