The rules for preserving a friendship seem simple: Hang out every now and then, don't sleep with each other, and don't form a band together. But the last one—which holds the power to tear asunder all sorts of relationships—doesn't seem to apply to the BFF Minneapolis trio Teenage Moods. Friends and roommates, the gang lobs water balloons of easy, fun guitar pop driven by energetic drumming, ambitious basslines, and furry guitar-work. "The Sugar Band," off last year's self-titled album, serves as a sweet introduction to a band that slaps together elements of punk, post-punk, and pop rock with teamwork vocals to make something that's both immediate and manages to linger. And it's always fun to watch real pals knock out some tunes together.
