Teengirl Fantasy
Teengirl Fantasy’s origins are as classic as they come: After a sex-ed class at Oberlin College in Ohio, Logan Takahashi and Nick Weiss founded their dreamy house-pop project as a larf, gave it a boy-band name, and began making the nine-hour journey to Brooklyn for shows whenever possible after some blogs picked up one of their songs. Okay, maybe it’s not the most foolproof foundation for a band, but their modest intent and lengthy commute are starting to pay off: The duo opened for Crystal Castles and had a set at the Animal Collective-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in 2011. (It also helps that Teengirl Fantasy’s music is really, really good.) Now based in Amsterdam, the duo recently signed to R&S for a follow-up to their debut, 7AM, which straddles the line between jubilant, danceable pop and something much more experimental and nervier.
