Tenacious D

From a hilarious underground stage show to full-blown superstardom, Tenacious D has ridden its comedy-rock shtick harder and longer than anyone could have dreamed. Jack Black and Kyle Gass have even parlayed the D’s popularity into surprisingly lucrative (though diminishingly rewarding) Hollywood careers. After the 2006 film Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny bombed at the box office, rumors circled that the D was done. That not-all-that-exaggerated assumption drives the premise of the new album, Rize Of The Fenix, which sees the D touching on a number of styles like Spanish flamenco, English folk, and ‘80s soundtrack pastiche, all to prove that not only is the D still going strong, it’s still the best band on earth.
