The Airborne Toxic Event
The Airborne Toxic Event has built up a significant buzz by marrying the confessional literacy of Bright Eyes with the post-new-wave dance-ability of Franz Ferdinand. The Los Angeles quintet is also known for the open letter it wrote to Pitchfork after its 2008 self-titled debut received a 1.6 rating and scathing review, which called out The Airborne Toxic Event for its formulaic approach to songwriting. But Island Records certainly sees potential in the band, re-releasing its debut earlier this year as well as this summer’s Happiness is Overrated EP. The latter features the titular highlight from the band’s debut along with session recordings of “Something New” and “Sometime Around Midnight” (a favorite of U2 bassist Adam Clayton).
