The Avett Brothers
The Avett Brothers’ excellent 2007 album, Emotionalism, stripped away the frantic punk energy of their older material in favor of introspective lyrics and detailed pop songwriting. So it’s no surprise that 2009’s Rick Rubin-produced I And Love And You finds the North Carolina boys continuing to smother their howlin’ rock-roots with even more polished, heart-on-sleeve folk-pop. Given the band’s consistent touring and Grammy hoedown with fellow folk-rockers Mumford And Sons and some dude named Bob Dylan, it should come as no surprise that the Brothers are looking to cash in on the current trends in banjo music and have just finished up making a new record with Rubin, The Carpenter, due out in September.
