The Bad Plus

For all its wild innovation, jazz trio The Bad Plus has always centered on the interplay among the three musicians, bassist Reid Anderson, pianist Ethan Iverson, and drummer Dave King. Their 2008 covers-only release, For All I Care, slightly changed that dynamic by adding a vocalist for the first time—Wendy Lewis of the Minneapolis alt-rock band Redstart. While that album was somewhat of a curve-ball—Bad Plus’ typical M.O has been interspersing deconstructed covers of rock classics with originals—their latest, Never Stop, might be the most surprising yet, consisting solely of originals just as accessible as the covers for which the band is known.
