The Besnard Lakes

Somewhere in the gulf between The Beach Boys and Slowdive, you’ll find The Besnard Lakes, the dreamy husband-and-wife duo of Olga Goreas and noted Montreal producer Jace Lasek. The group’s 2007 debut, The Besnard Lakes Are The Dark Horse, had all the earmarks of a seasoned engineer recording his own material, with the seeming simplicity of its songs revealing secret layers on repeated listens. The 2010 album The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night made a ton of critics’ year-end top 10 lists, and found Lasek refining his swirling, spacey landscapes and adding booming guitar, explosive rhythms, and hints of ’70s prog. The group released an EP called You Lived In The City in the fall of 2011.
