Somewhere in the gulf between The Beach Boys and Slowdive, you’ll find The Besnard Lakes, the dreamy husband-and-wife duo of Olga Goreas and noted Montreal producer Jace Lasek. The group’s 2007 debut, The Besnard Lakes Are The Dark Horse, had all the earmarks of a seasoned engineer recording his own material, with the seeming simplicity of its songs revealing secret layers on repeated listens. Last year’s The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night made a ton of critics’ year-end top 10 lists, and found Lasek refining his swirling, spacey landscapes and adding booming guitar, explosive rhythms, and hints of ’70s prog. The group released just a new EP, called You Lived In The City.
