The Bouncing Souls
They may have named themselves after an advertising tagline for Dr. Martens, the world’s premier shit-kicking boots, but the New Jersey punks in The Bouncing Souls have always been more interested in melody than bloodletting. Lyrically, too, the band is focused on observation rather than rabble-rousing—but while the band’s lyrics dissect, analyze, and occasionally skewer the punk scene, the group remains very much ensconced within it. During 2009’s 20th anniversary tour, The Souls wrote, recorded, and self-released a series of singles and 7-inch EPs, twelve of which were cherry-picked for last year’s LP, Ghosts On The Boardwalk.
