Classic rock-damaged art-pop quartet The Bright Light Social Hour is a curiosity in the Austin scene: savvy wiseacres with jazz-fusion chops slick enough to play to populist masses, yet still capable of blues-flecked spazz-outs that set rock-nerds’ hips a-shaking. With one full-length (2010’s self-titled LP) and a live EP as testament to the band’s ability to engagingly mix Southern rock, blue-eyed soul, and hard-driving disco already under its belt, more is expected from the group after its first nationwide tour and sweep of the Austin Music Awards at SXSW.
