The Charlatans UK

The Charlatans UK glommed onto the baggy, bawdy Manchester scene that spawned The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, with an arch name angled as a preemptive strike against those who might label them pretenders. This many years later, The Charlatans are the only one of the scene’s big three to remain consistently active. Is there a lesson to be learned from this? Not really (except perhaps that it’s always better to replace Manchester with “Madchester” when context allows). In 2010, the band released the new Who We Touch and celebrated the 20th-anniversary reissue of its breakout debut, Some Friendly.
