The Claudettes
When it comes to bizarre band origin stories, The Claudettes certainly have a doozy. You see, the group was the former house band for a bar called Claudette’s in Oglesby, Illinois, but after the tavern’s “ruthless owner”—the titular Claudette—lost her license, the band found itself still under contract. Now, Claudette drags the hapless group members around the country, forcing them to play for unsuspecting showgoers, all the while hawking her own beer and drink specials. While that story may be somewhat suspect, what is known for sure is that The Claudettes are an instrumental, piano-and-drums offshoot of Chicago’s Oh My God. Whether the feared Claudette will show up for the group’s show remains anyone’s guess.
