The Cult
There’s no denying Ian Astbury’s pipes, and The Cult’s second album, Love, still sounds strong 20-some years later. But, as the hard-edged, goth outfit started turning into a butt-rock band by the end of the ’80s, it was only a matter of time before The Cult became a sort of cartoon. The band’s back together now, pretty much, having put long-overwrought differences aside, and released a pair of EPs—Capsule 1 and 2—in a variety of formats (Flash drive, FLAC download, 12” LP, and a dual-disc CD/DVD version of Capsule 1 that includes a short film by Astbury, A Prelude To Ruins) and the brand new Choice Of Weapon. Whatever.
