The Depreciation Guild

If you thought listening to three dudes playing video games would always be annoying, think again. Brooklyn’s The Depreciation Guild is made up of two guitar-playing humans, a live drummer, and a sequenced Famicom (no new computers, the band promises). The result sounds like Kevin Shields reimagining an early video game soundtrack, minus the familiar sound bites of yore. On the band’s debut full-length, In Her Gentle Jaws, and the new Spirit Youth, founder Kurt Feldman harnesses bits and chips from the Nintendo gaming system, blending each component into shimmering shoegaze soundscapes that enclose layers of breathy, dreamy vocals.
