Where would the world be without such solid-gold rockers and hard-rocking compilation favorites as “Jesus Is Just Alright” and “China Grove?” It’s just too frightening to imagine. Purveyors of air-guitar favorites throughout the ’70s, The Doobie Brothers mellowed a bit once blue-eyed soul man and ’80s-soundtrack king Michael McDonald entered the fold, pushing the band toward light funk. McDonald still appears at the occasional Doobies show, but otherwise original vocalist Tom Johnston is back at the helm.
