A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

Artist The Flaming Lips

  • Flaming Lips Brian Sweeney

After creating the much-hyped The Soft Bulletin in 1999, the oddball Oklahoma trio The Flaming Lips delivered 2002’s Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, a wondrously imaginative concept album that landed the acid-pop band in the same can-do-no-wrong stratosphere as Radiohead. That makes Embryonic, due out Oct. 13, one of the year's most anticipated releases. Eager fans who buy tickets to shows on their current tour are eligible to download a prerelease EP that features three songs from the new album and some old B-sides (as well as a live bootleg of the show).
