The Glitch Mob
When a band is called The Glitch Mob, one expects a reasonable amount of glitchiness. Unfortunately for literalists, the electronic trio isn’t really into meeting expectations. Brought together by a common love of hip-hop in the same L.A. scene that produced Flying Lotus, Daedelus, and Nosaj Thing, the group combines space-age instrumentation, squiggly beats, and copious MPC knob-twisting, resulting in a quintessential mix for the modern-day Laserdrome. (Fittingly, the group’s music served as the soundtrack for a black-light dance group on America’s Got Talent.) Further subverting expectations, its debut, Drink The Sea, is built on live sounds instead of samples, meaning live shows feature plenty of guitar noisiness and pulsating drumming in addition to the laptop.
