The Go-Go's

The Go-Go’s only released three albums of spunky, effervescent new wave during its 1980s heyday, but the band still made a profound impact. Most importantly, the band’s debut LP, The Beauty And The Beat, climbed to number one on the Billboard 200, marking The Go-Go’s as the first all-female act to top the chart with an album it wrote and recorded in its entirety. It’s a distinction that, sadly, hasn’t been matched since, but the attitude and independent spirit of cuts like “We Got The Beat” and “Our Lips Are Sealed” cleared a commercial path for new wave—all the while providing touchstones for the riot grrrl revolution of the 1990s. The band celebrates the album’s 30th anniversary on its current tour.
