The Infamous Stringdusters
The Infamous Stringdusters have a way of convincing people that they’re pursuing traditional bluegrass, when they’re really more inclined to stretch out from it for the better. The Nashville five-piece channels all the elements lovingly, especially in the way Andy Hall’s dobro and Andy Falco’s guitar rustically glitter off of each other, and in the excellent harmonies that arise when all members gather around a mic. The songs aren’t flashy, radical departures; they’re just a natural fit for the band’s expansive and sneakily modern songwriting. Even string-band purists can admire the sharp, never-slack finger work that bursts through in each fill and solo. The band’s latest, Silver Sky, was produced by Billy Hume, who is best known for working with hip-hop artists like Nas and Ludacris.
